Final term studio project at NYSID
Participation Role: Concept, Planning & 3D Modeling
This luxury apartment is an Artist-Loft located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan for a successful artist couple.
Artist, Alvaro Sánchez-Montañés, showed me that nature always comes back to its origin, giving rise to even more beautiful compositions. This belief made me realize the beauty in the integration between man-made architecture and nature as an alternative to the inherent confrontation between them. To apply this concept I introduced a transitional zone between architecture and nature, as symbolically represented, by using a mixture of man-made and natural materials on the fifth floor in the main living area.
Looking at Marc Robbroeckx’s work, I decided to challenge myself by finding as many uses to recycle “information material” as possible. I tried to design different elements such as walls, storage furniture and chairs based on recycled magazines and books.
Materials typically used in architectural construction (concrete, iron and glass) on the lower level transitions to materials found directly in nature, such as wood, gravel and plants on the upper level, where an apple tree was planted. This transition signifies my overall design intent to represent the harmony between the man-made city/ architecture and nature.
