This project was to create a composite cultural center that showed Jeju World Natural Heritages at a glance. Jeju Island is the only domestic location in Korea which has Natural Heritages, therefore this project was carried out to fortify its position in the world. The purpose was for this center to become a central role of public relations domestically and internationally. This project remained in its planning stage due to financial problems.
One basement and ground floor covered a total area approximately 7500m². Circled around the concept “Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes”, we planned the circulation and zoning design for Hallasan, Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, and Geomunoreum Lava Tube System. I mainly designed the Media Exhibition, Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone Exhibition, and BI design.

The Media Exhibition
The Media Exhibition was located at the introduction of the entire pavilion. It gave people the feel of a mystical world and provided expectations about the exhibit at the same time. This sector concept was a “Jeju Basalt”, and each screen in the sector showed various images about animals and plants which lived only in Jeju, endangered animals and plants, and the natural beauty of Jeju Island.
Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone Exhibition
In the center of Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone Exhibition, there was a miniature model of the Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone. This miniature model had mini screens that give information about the generating process, profile and geological structure. An interactive video exhibit was constructed around the model with the theme ‘Sympathy of Man and Nature’.
